Anyways. I’ve finally gotten around to posting some photos of the jewelry I made. Click on the image to see more on my Flickr stream. I made several silver pieces, 3 pendants and 1 ring. All silver, the two in the photo were originally carved from wax and the other are organic human hair castings. I came up with idea to do hair jewelry from the Victorian Mourning hair jewelry that was all the rage in the 1700 and 1800’s.
I decided to cast the the braids in silver, though, instead of retaining
the actual hair. But I think it serves the same purpose, that a part of you can out-live your time on this world and be worn as a reminded for your loved ones. I think the silver is less creepy than hair, although many people in my class were creeped out by me for sure. They liked the end result, they just had trouble understanding what I was doing. A couple of people told me I should use horse hair because it would show up better, which is true. But the point is to use human hair and retain a piece of that person for eternity. So I felt like a fucking goth-kid explaining that.

I carved the ring and memento mori skull pendant from wax. I wish I had done more carving, as I took to it and found it easy and fast. If I take any more classes I will definitely focus on that. It just sucks that its so expensive, buying silver and all the supplies, not to mention the class itself.

Should have some new stuff coming soon. I have a stack of awesome Halloween costumes I want to make for the season. I need to buy some new supplies for that too but we just ripped out the most awful carpet in our office, so it looks like we have to buy some flooring.
