I may have a professional interest in video, but I can’t even begin to compete with this dynamic duo! Fred & Sharon have inspired me to go back to school and brush up on my skills. Maybe one day I can run my own successful movie business too!
I’m obsessed with nature documentaries done by the BBC. I used my Halloween prize at Amazon this past year to get the Planet Earth box set, and I’ve also acquired the Blue Planet series as well. I love Sir David Attenborough.
I had this dream the other night that I was in this library in the future, and any subject you were interested in was searchable on computers to this video database that David Attenborough had created. So you would type in: Intersexed sea creatures, and Sir Attenborough would pop up and explain what this was all about and how it relates to humanity.
In lieu of my dream database actually existing, I’m going to try and collect everything possible he has made. The next collection will be Life of Mammals, I saw the Meat Eaters episode and it was awesome.
Here’s my amazon wish list, if you’re wondering what to get me for my birthday.
David Attenborough’s #1 moment - an amazing Lyre Bird that can imitate all sorts of sounds, natural and man made:
My online documentary watching pastime took a giant kick in the balls last week with the end of Stage6. Stage6 was my go-to source for streaming movies, shows and docs. But like all things to good to be true, it’s over. Now it’s crappy Google video or youtube I guess. Veoh might take over some of the need, I was using it when I started using Stage 6 originally, but the benefits of streaming won me over and I abandoned Veoh. In truth, it doesn’t take that long to download and I think they are supporting divX now.
I did find a great documentary about the Aquatic Ape hypothesis on youtube last night. The quality is poor but watchable. Aquatic Ape Part 1
Super interesting ideas, great argument and potential. Anthropologists are haters, and it would be great if they did the science to either prove or dismiss the idea; that humans might have spent some time in the water during our evolutionary history.
And of course, here it is presented by Sir David Attenborough, I recommend part 2: Scars of Evolution.
New oil paintings, for an Art Party at the Cre8ery this Saturday.
Inspired by several dreams, of a procession of creepy blonde girls with pink pope-like hats. The mounted animal heads are a theme carried over from a larger painting I’ve been working on.
Wow! I’m so flattered, these awesome people took the time to send me photos of their own Marie Antoinette costumes! I’m really impressed with how these turned out, Congratulations! It’s like a cult or something!
I love this one! Sexy nips! Awesome job - Megan Kolodziej.
Brianne Messer - did a killer job working with the flex foam. She sent me her progress photos and I was super impressed by the cleanliness of her working space. I could learn from her!
Cathy Petch from Washington DC - won scariest costume category at their event!
Laura & Joe Harak from Reading PA took home first prize for their costumes!
Here’s a new one! Shea Brislin from Atlanta, GA - said she made it with paper mache over different pieces of floral foam. Very crafty!
J. Karen Parker from beautiful British Columbia made hers with paper-mache. She was the big winner of a trip to Vegas and $250! Congrats!
Amy King from Austin, Texas also used floral Styrofoam and papier mache. So that’ s a great alternative to making it! Love the cubicle!
If anyone else wants to send me photos of their headless costumes I’d love to post them all.
Thanks
For some reason I don’t think so. Maybe it’s catching on, but I’m pretty sure Halloween is a North American thing. I don’t think Europeans understand why some of us put the kind of effort into out costumes and decorations and parties that we do. Which is why I don’t understand why my site is getting absolutely killed by a Hungarian site right now (http://www.ize.hu) I guess they just think the costume looks cool.
But they must think it’s pretty lame to spend time, effort and money on a silly night that doesn’t seem to serve a purpose.
Though, I guess that’s why I like Halloween, because it is purposeless. It’s a chance to be creative and funny and get to drunk and rowdy.
Maybe they’re missing out?
Our Winnipeg Folk Festival art is completed. We produced 5 characters like Reggie from Bemidji to be used by festival goers. They are all “tributes” to the usual suspects you see at the festival; americans, hippies, loogans, sexy babes and musicians.
more to come…
Props to Temperance for finding this amazing example of post-modern painting at Murdoch school in Winnipeg. This artist was well accustomed to the finer techniques of this style, using both expressionistic brush strokes and a well- balaced colour palatte that screams with raw emotion. I really, really love this. Really.
right. My 26th birthday was a blast, great to see everyone that could make it out. I watched the sun rise, for the first time in forever. Unforch, I really neglected to take any photos. I was too busy schmoozing. But I’m pretty sure I’ll get my hands on some of my friends photos. We made way too many harsh Jello shooters, and I also think the punch was quite popular. I also love my new dishwasher, I don’t know how I handled the clean-up process before, but it must have sucked. My brain-cells are suffering right now. Thank you Andy for finishing the kitchen, best present ever! love it!
